Why AI Summaries Are Not Enough For Decisions

AI can explain pages quickly, but real decisions need comparison, memory, source context, and visible tradeoffs across tabs.

Summaries Are Useful, But They Flatten Context

AI summaries are useful when you need to understand a page quickly. They can compress a long article, explain a policy, or turn a product description into plain language. But decisions usually require more than compression.

A summary can tell you what a page says. It may not tell you why that page matters relative to the other pages you are considering.

A summary tells you what a page says. A decision surface shows what the pages mean together.

Decisions Need Memory

Many decisions stretch across sessions. You compare today, step away, return tomorrow, and realize you no longer remember which tab explained the hidden fee or which review changed your mind.

Decision memory is different from chat history. It needs to remember the goal, the options, the factors, the evidence, the unresolved risks, and the recommendation state.

What A Decision Surface Adds

A decision surface keeps the important differences visible:

  • Which option is cheapest.
  • Which option is safest.
  • Which option has the clearest terms.
  • Which option carries the most uncertainty.
  • Which tradeoff is driving the recommendation.

That distinction matters when money, time, or trust is involved. A single-page summary can miss cross-tab contradictions, hidden fees, unclear policies, and the exact reason one option is safer than another.
